VMCAD GD grad Ryan D'Agostino published in Flash / Flex
Graphic Design graduate (2006), Ryan D'Agostino has published a tutorial in Flash/ Flex magazine. The tutorial shows Flash developers how to create a dynamic photo gallery for online presentations. Many people learning Flash take an approach to photo galleries that makes updating difficult. Ryan's tutorial explains how to structure code in such a way that the gallery is updated the next time readers visit the page. "This is a huge time saver, especially if you sell this to a client," says Ryan. "VMCAD gave me a positive mindset to handle tough situations/deadlines. With dedication and hard work, I can be the best and output great work that makes my clients happy." He also suggested providing interviewers with a CD form of the projects. “Show the breadth of your skills with multiple types of collateral pieces,” Greg suggested. Dan added, “Take your design to new places – slant, enlarge, crop, make each piece unique.” Michelle described the thought process of interviewers. “We‘re trying to answer ‘who are you?’ and ‘where can you fit on my team?’ ” All the students appreciated the real-world experience of presenting their portfolios and gaining professional feedback.

Graduate Spotlight: Jenna Kropp
You've heard it a million times… teachers tell us to work hard, don't pass up any opportunity, and work for what you want. I’ve been able to stand out in my job with those helpful tips. On the last day of my unpaid internship Home Shopping Network's Improvement Catalogs, I was offered a paid part time position! Everyday at work is something different. I get to work with the catalog itself, designing pages for the website, designing and coding emails, as well as creating postcards, mailers and hangtags.
I get to work in the studio, setting up shots for different items. I get to do everything that the creative department covers to keep this catalog and website running. Now I'm being offered a full time position for their upcoming website. I’m excited for my future at Improvements Catalog. I saw something that I wanted, I worked for it, proved myself and will soon be reaping the benefits.

Where are they now?
Graphic Design graduate Todd Rayner’s first love was comic illustration. Like most graphic designers his dream was to someday work for Marvel, DC, or Image comics. And while that’s a lofty dream, anything is possible with hard work, talent and passion.
Just a few weeks ago Todd sent VMCAD a very special email. Todd Rayner had not given up on his dream and his passion had finally found him!
The email read, “Just wanted to let everyone know that you can now purchase issues 1 and 2 of “The Elite” – my first published comic book colors! It’s a longtime dream of mine to have accomplished this and I just wanted to share my excitement.”
This is proof once again that dreams do come true. And VMCAD helps students develop the skills and nurture the passion to make it all happen. VMCAD is so proud of Todd’s accomplishments. Congratulations, Todd! Your hard work paid off!

12.25.2009 – Sports Illustrated Features John Kenney!
VMCAD Photography Instructor published in this month's Sports Illustrated! Check out VMCAD Photography Instructor John Kenney's photographs in this month's Sports Illustrated! Mr. Kenney took the photograph of 1973 Heisman Trophy winner John Cappelletti on the field at Penn State. The photograph was originally taken in 1973 but was published in the December 2009 issue of Sports Illustrated for the 75th anniversary of the prestigious Heisman Trophy Award.
The photograph is unique not only because of the challenging winter weather conditions, but also because it is a shot of Cappelletti coming off the field late in the game. His helmet is off, and after rushing for more than 200 yards that game, the halfback looks weathered. Instead of a typical action shot, this photograph shows Cappelletti's determination and personality. Support Mr. Kenney's work by picking up a copy of this month's Sports Illustrated!
