Matthew Dodd

Director of Career Services

Matthew is a graduate of Case Western Reserve University specializing in 19th century French painting. While working on his M.A. he developed an original course examining the interconnected history of music and art from the Greeks to the 20th century. He also studied studio arts and architectural history while earning his undergraduate degree at Cleveland State University. Professionally, Matthew has presented papers on such topics as the significance of Wagnerian opera on post-impressionism and Robert Arneson’s Jackson Pollock inspired ceramic works. Matthew also has over 10 years of experience in high-end picture framing and installation, designing original frames for works by Picasso, Rauschenberg and Sol Lewitt. Matthew teaches History of Art, Costume, and Architectural Interiors as well as Art Fundamentals and Color Theory.

Patty Flauto

Fashion Merchandising and Graphic Design Instructor

Ms. Flauto holds a Master in Fine Arts and is a practicing fine artist.  Her paintings are mixed media and are displayed in several art galleries around town.  She specializes in color theory, basic design and layout and art fundamentals.  She focuses her work on consumer product development and creativity training.  Some of her clients include American Greetings, Progressive Insurance, Rubbermaid, Medical Mutual and Corning.

Ms. Messina has been teaching at VMCAD since 2006.  She owns her own Graphic Design company, The Graphic Edge Professional Design, and has previously worked as an Art Director and Graphic Designer for Ad-Man Graphics, Inc.  She has won three Apex Awards of Excellence for her creative concepts and designs.  And she says her favorite part of teaching is being able to inspire her students to achieve.

Todd Saperstein

Graphic Design Department Chair

Mr. Saperstein is a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Art with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Illustration. He recently completed his Master of Arts Degree at Full Sail University in the Education Media Design and Technology program, which focused on new media and technology for use in education and business communication. He specialized in virtual learning environments and social networks, both personal and professional.

Mr. Saperstein accepted the Graphic Design Department Head position at VMCAD in October of 2002. His mission was to provide every student with the faculty, environment, and opportunity to build all of the vital skills necessary to succeed as a professional graphic designer. Saperstein confidently states, “Over the next two years, we will test every ounce of your creative skill, work ethics, and character, in order to prepare you for entry into the industry.”

Prior to his position here at the College, Mr. Saperstein worked as the Senior Designer for Ernst & Young LLP in Cleveland, responsible for creating custom proposals, marketing collateral, and brand designs both internal and external for a global client base. He has also illustrated for American Greetings, designing a line of humorous greeting cards for their European Division. Mr. Saperstein is a proud and active member of the American Advertising Federation and the American Institute of Graphic Art.
